Concept:
Native American Tribes
University of Montana sits on the lands of many Indigenous people and with this the school honors these tribes with hosting two N7 games with Nike.
Moodboard
Indigenous and Big Sky are two of the key words that get used throughout this project and become an inspiration for this moodboard that’ll be a representation for both designs.
Color Palette
This color palette uses the UM branding while also bringing in colors for the men’s and women’s teams to represent the big sky.
Sketch Process + Iterations:
First Idea
The first idea was combining both pattern’s and keeping the main color of the uniform the Griz Maroon. This ended up being too much and the patterns weren’t cohesive.
Two Different Designs
At first the men’s and women’s would have had the same uniform’s with slight changes but it ended up being decided that it would make more sense to split up the two patterns between both team’s.
The final designs that were decided for both teams were Version 2 as it let the pattern shine while still looking cohesive.
Uniform Hidden Elements:
Starry Night Sky
To represent the Big Sky Country that Montana is known for on top of the sunset for the colors of the uniform a starry night sky was included on the top portion of the men’s uniform.
Kalispell Tribe Pattern
Representing one of the three tribes that UM honors during the N7 games. The diamond and smaller triangles are both colored to match either the jersey or shorts depending on the placement, this also helps break up the long lines of white.
Sun Rays
To represent the Big Sky Country that Montana is known for the bottom of the women’s uniform have sun rays to represent the sunrise and to be a contrast to the men’s uniform.
Salish Tribe Pattern
Representing one of the three tribes that UM honors during the N7 games. As this pattern appears smaller on the shorts compared to the men’s there is no color included in the design.
Team Items:
Headbands in Griz Maroon and White
Socks in Turquoise, Griz Maroon and White
Team Warm Up’s
Dahlberg Arena
Both team’s share the UM basketball court so this was kept in mind when applying the pattern and gradient’s.
Fan Merchandise:
Beanies
The left 3 represent the men’s uniform with the gradient’s. The middle one with the white bear paw represents the whole school. Leaving the right 3 to represent the women’s uniform with the gradient’s.
Scarves
Pulling the starry night sky and sun ray’s from the uniforms and applying them to scarves but just keeping them in one color palette incase a fan was to wear these on top of the other merch.
Short Sleeve T-Shirt & Sweaters
Designed just like the team’s warm up’s but instead of using the Turquoise the Griz Maroon was used to differentiate the fan merch and warm ups.
